Consumer Unit Upgrades
Your fuse box, the consumer unit, is the heart of a property's electrics, and we still see everything from tenement risers to converted farm steadings running on old rewireable fuses. An old board can let a fault run on. A modern one cuts the power in a fraction of a second, so a fault stays a fault instead of becoming a fire or a shock.
That is the real reason to change it. Your family, your pets and anyone working in the house are protected the moment something goes wrong, whether it is a faulty kettle, a nail through a cable or water where it should not be.
Rural properties bring their own challenges too. A farmhouse or steading on a private supply sometimes needs its earthing arrangement checked and upgraded alongside the board itself, which we test for as standard. We fit a quality consumer unit with surge protection, label everything clearly and walk you through the new board before we leave. Most swaps are finished in a day.

Consumer units questions, answered
How much does a consumer unit upgrade cost?
Every property and its circuits are different, so we price each job individually after seeing it. You get a competitive price in writing before any work starts.
How long will the power be off?
Usually just a few hours in the middle of the day. We plan the changeover so the disruption to your home or business is as short as possible.
I live on a farm with a private supply, does that change anything?
It can. Rural properties sometimes need the earthing arrangement upgraded alongside the board. We check this as part of every quote, so there are no surprises.
Is it notifiable work?
Yes, and as an NICEIC Approved Contractor we handle the certification for you, to the Scottish building standards.
